Kathmandu is the capital and the urban core of the Kathmandu Valley which contains two others districts: Lalitpur (Patan) and Bhaktapur. The city of Kathmandu is named after a structure in Durbar Square called Kasthamandap, Kath meaning “wood” and mandu is “craftsmanship”. Described as “Land of Gods” Kathmandu is an uninterrupted and exceptional meeting of the Hindu and Buddhist ethnic groups and monuments.

Popular place to stay few nights in Kathmandu is Thamel known for its restaurants, hotels, shops, internet cafés and travel agents. Another cheaper option is Freek-Street near Basantapur Square. Kathmandu stands at 1400 metres, the average temperature during the summer season varies around 28°C and 10°C in winter period.
